Charging pile vs charging station

In addition to using external charging piles for charging, on-board charging and home charging piles are the most common ways to replenish energy for new energy vehicles. Although both are slow charging, there are obvious differences between on-board charging and home charging piles. The specific contents are as follows:

1. Different charging powers
The charging power of on-board chargers is generally 1.5-4kW, while the power of current mainstream brand original home charging piles is basically 7kW. The difference in charging power directly affects the charging time required for the vehicle. A full charge in a car may take more than 20 hours, but a home charging station only takes about 10 hours.

2. The cost of charging equipment is different

At present, most of the on-board chargers for new energy vehicles come with the car, which means they cost no money. Even if you buy it yourself, a car charger only costs a few hundred yuan at most. On the other hand, if home charging piles are not included with the car, the original home charging piles of most car companies will cost more than 400-500 USD, and the third-party home charging piles will also cost more than 300-400 USD.

3. Convenience is different
Home charging piles are often fixed in one place, and cars can only be charged in designated places, so home charging piles are a fixed way of replenishing energy. But the car charger can be carried with the car. As long as there is a 220V power supply, it can be charged anywhere, so the convenience of the car charger is even greater.

4. Different security

As long as it is a regular brand of home charging pile, it has certain lightning protection, waterproof, and leakage prevention functions. If an abnormality occurs during charging, it can automatically cut off the power in time. These safety functions are not available in most car chargers. . Can the car charger be plugged directly into the socket?
Yes, but you need to ensure that the socket is grounded and the socket used is a separate one, otherwise the car charger will not work properly. However, some car charger plugs are 16A. If the socket is an ordinary 10A, then the car charger cannot be directly inserted into the socket. You need to connect a 16A to 10A adapter first, and then plug the adapter into a household power socket. .

In addition, many people will need to use a car charger to charge via a socket for various reasons. Although it is theoretically possible, the safety of charging via a flying cable cannot be guaranteed. During charging, leakage, short circuit, etc. may occur, which can be serious. Otherwise, it will directly cause a fire. Therefore, when using a car charger, it is best to plug it directly into the socket to charge while ensuring safety.
